Meet the Marigolds Behind the Season
Before they brighten arrangements, celebrations and ofrendas here in Arizona, our seasonal marigolds begin their journey in the flower fields of Southern California.
Grown in Vista, California
Our seasonal marigolds come to Arizona Flower Market from Arango Green Growers in Vista, California. Each fall, fields of brilliant marigolds produce the vibrant blooms that make their way from the farm to our Market in Phoenix for this special season.
A Flower Rich in Tradition
Marigolds — known as cempasúchil — hold a special place in Día de los Muertos traditions.
Observed on November 1 and 2, Día de los Muertos is a time to remember and honor loved ones who have passed. Families create ofrendas, or altars, decorated with photographs, favorite foods, candles, papel picado and flowers.
With their brilliant golden-orange color and distinctive fragrance, marigolds are traditionally placed on ofrendas and along pathways to help guide the spirits of loved ones home.
More than a beautiful fall flower, the marigold is one of the most recognizable floral symbols of remembrance, love and connection during Día de los Muertos.
